Dear FBC family,
Thank you church family for your generous support of the Necessary/Battle /Steel Magnolias Relay For Life team. We are humbled to know that so many of you understand the importance of being vigilant in our fight against cancer. Please join us on October 8th for our celebration.
Current Covid Protocols
Our Current Covid Policy (Updated 09/17/2021)
Anyone who desires to worship in person at First Baptist Church, and feels safe and comfortable doing so, is welcome to attend on Sunday mornings as long he/she is willing to maintain the following Covid protocols:
* Wear a facemask covering the nose and mouth for the entirety of time spent inside the building.
* Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from all people not in your immediate family.
* Remain at home if you have a runny nose, headache, cough, fever, or congestion.
Our sanctuary is large enough for all who want to worship in person to gather safely as long as we honor these protocols and refrain from congregational and choral singing. Please come if you are so led.
Having said that, we also realize that the infection rate is twice what it was during the peak last year. We also know that the Delta Variant is 2 to 3 times more contagious than the first strain of Covid-19 and that it has, in rare cases, infected people who were vaccinated. This is the reason that we are not gathering in person for Sunday School or in person on Wednesday nights. Since we have the capability of worshiping virtually, if you feel more comfortable doing so, please join us online. We respect and honor that choice just as we respect and honor the choice of worshiping in person.
Of the 150+ Wilkes County residents who have perished as a result of contracting Covid-19, not one has been a member of First Baptist Church. It is our strong to desire to keep it that way. Thank you for your patience, your faithfulness, and your perseverance through this strange and challenging days. God is with us, and we will make it through to the other side.
Mark Your Calendars for Outdoor Worship Service, October 24
What could be better than worshiping in God’s beautiful creation—complete with brilliantly colored leaves, a pristine lake, and crisp fall weather—TOGETHER! Bring a lawn chair (we will socially distance by families) to Walk By Faith Christian Camp (where we had a Vespers Service in July) on Sunday, October 24 for a 10:00AM worship service. The address of the camp is 5390 Mountain View Rd, Hays, NC 28635. Parking is limited, so we will have shuttle service from the Mountain View Elementary School parking lot as well as the Fire Station Parking lot as needed, come early.
We plan on singing together and collecting a love offering to go to the Camp (in addition to our regular tithes and offerings). Please bring children, there is plenty of room for them to walk around with parents if needed.
If it is raining, we will NOT worship at the Campground and will gather in the sanctuary and observe normal Covid-19 protocols.
Outdoor Children’s Church & Indoor Baby Nursery Re-Open Sunday, October 3
Understanding the critical Christian formation that occurs during childhood combined with the research that shows that the safest place to gather during Covid is outside, we will once again offer Children’s Church outdoors beginning October 3. Please take children directly to the tent in the grass next to the children’s building before coming to worship. As we move into fall, please dress children appropriately to be outdoors (but active) in the cooler temperatures. **If it rains, we are not equipped to have
Children’s Church outside, so it will be canceled.
Also, in an attempt to make worship plausible for our young parents, the Nursery for 0-2 year- olds will also re-open on October 3. Rachael Brionez, a friend of Jamie’s and the Infant Teacher at Playworks will be our paid Nursery Worker. She is vaccinated and will wear a mask in the nursery.
WE WILL NOT HAVE CHILDREN'S CHURCH OR NURSERY ON OCTOBER 24 WHEN WE MEET AT THE WALK BY FAITH CHRISTIAN CAMP.
Fifty Words for Rain, by Asha Lemmie, is the October reading selection for Shelf Indulgence. The book club will gather on the portico on October 28 at 1:00. Anyone who would like to read and discuss this historical novel is welcome! Contact Betty Kilby for information.
